Padauk
Pterocarpus soyauxii
Country of origin
Africa
Padauk has been used in the making of guitars and other musical instruments since the 17th century. The wood has beautifully radiant coral red, red-brown, or orange-brown color, which becomes darker as the wood ages and is exposed to the elements. Padauk has an even, lustrous, and highly decorative texture, and produces a balanced sound with slightly emphasized brilliant highs.
